NTSB recommends lowering blood alcohol level that constitutes drunken driving to .05
posted 05/14/2013, 9:18 PM (NBC News) [Category: Big Brother/Orwellian] WASHINGTON – The National Transportation Safety Board voted to recommend to states that they lower the blood-alcohol content that constitutes drunken driving.
Currently, all 50 states have set a BAC level of .08, reflecting the percentage of alcohol, by volume, in the blood. If a driver is found to have a BAC level of .08 or above, he or she is subject to arrest and prosecution.
The NTSB recommends dropping that to a BAC level of .05. ... (more) "Our officers are having too much trouble with the math involved with .08" /sarcasm
This is going to criminalize another MASSIVE swath of the population. Truth is the limit should be abolished, simple reckless driving charges cover reckless driving, some people can handle alcohol and drive just fine, others can't. The crime is putting other people's lives in danger, not drinking evil wicked Jesus juice. - Chris |

That's how much the state makes, per individual, for selling juvenile offenders' records to companies that do background checks.
Washington is one of eight states that make juvenile records public, and one of only three states that sell the information.
After being open to public scrutiny for the past 35 years, most juvenile offender records would be sealed under a bill pas... (more) |

Cox operates its own 10+ strikes program featuring warnings and temporary Internet restrictions in the early stages. The Internet provider stops short of detailing the end-game but if earlier statements are to believed, repeat infringers are likely to have their accounts terminated.

California Court Rules It Illegal To Check Maps On Your Phone While Driving
posted 04/08/2013, 12:49 AM (Techdirt) [Category: Big Brother/Orwellian] For years, we've discussed the problematic nature of "distracted driving" laws that seek to outlaw things like talking on your phone or texting while driving. It is not that we don't think these behaviors are dangerous. It seems clear that those activities can take one's attention away from driving and potentially increase the likelihood of an accident by a significant amount. However, the laws are often broad and inconsistent -- and, worse, they can have serious unintended consequence... (more) |
