The Colonial Pipeline, based in Alpharetta, Ga., returned to full operating conditions late Monday and full commercial electrical power has been restored to the pipeline, the company said in a statement.

DMORT: expect up to 40,000 bodies in NOLAA co-owner of Shelbyville-based Gowen-Smith Chapel has been deployed to Gulfport, Miss., to help with recovery since Hurricane Katrina, and his business partner here has described the grim task there.
"DMort is telling us to expect up to 40,000 bodies," Dan Buckner said, quoting officials with the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team, a volunteer arm of Homeland Security.

Seven killed in Saudi oil city standoffMost of the fighting has been in a busy street where many Western companies have offices after Saudi security forces besieged suspected al-Qaida members holed up in the city's al-Hamra district.

6-year-old becomes a hero to band of toddlers, rescuersBATON ROUGE, LA. - In the chaos that was Causeway Boulevard, this group of evacuees stood out: a 6-year-old boy walking down the road, holding a 5-month-old, surrounded by five toddlers who followed him around as if he were their leader.
They were holding hands. Three of the children were about 2 years old, and one was wearing only diapers. A 3-year-old girl had her 14-month-old brother in tow. The 6-year-old spoke for all of them, and he said his name was Deamonte Love.

50,000 troops now in 'Katrina zone' THE number of US military forces in storm-ravaged Gulf Coast states has swelled to more than 50,000 as ground troops and naval vessels continued to stream into Louisiana and Mississippi, military officials said.
"I think we're going to be there a relatively long time. I see it in months, and not weeks," said Admiral Timothy Keating, commander of the US Northern Command.
