Here's a trailer for a new documentary about the coming financial collapse of the United States. For a change, it actually features a number of prominent spokesmen who are on the libertarian/Austrian economics side of the solution rather than the "we need more government regulation" side of the solution. (Unfortunately, the trailer doesn't show the names of the people ... (more)
This article was originally published in December, 2002. A previous version of it was published on December 25, 1966, dedicated to Harry’s then 9-year-old daughter.
It’s Christmas, and I have the usual problem of deciding what to give you. I know you might enjoy many things – books, games, clothes.
But I’m very selfish. I want to give you something that will stay with you for more than a few months or years. I want to... (more)
A quick note on Christmas!
I would hope no one finds our site too depressing, it's certainly not my intent!
The site covers very negative news, but I certainly don't think the world is some horrible place!
The world is full of amazing things, just look at the computer you're using, or maybe the super awesome smart phone or tablet!
The world is full of awesomeness, that just isn't the focus of our site! We focus on all the horrible things the state is doing in order to:
A. Bring these crimes to people's attention
B. Draw a contrast with how awesome the rest of the world is thanks to capitalism!
It has been seven years since the end of the second siege of Fallujah -- the US assault that left the city in ruins, killed thousands of civilians, and displaced hundreds of thousands more; the assault that poisoned a generation, plaguing the people who live there with cancers and their children with birth defects.
It has been seven years and the lies that justified the ... (more)
At the heart of the Christmas story rests some important lessons concerning free enterprise, government, and the role of wealth in society.
Let's begin with one of the most famous phrases: "There's no room at the inn." This phrase is often invoked as if it were a cruel and heartless dismissal of the tired travelers Joseph and Mary. Many renditions of the story conjure up images of the couple going from inn to inn only to have the owner barking at them to go away and... (more)

CNN finally releases the uncut interview Glorida Borger had with Ron Paul, the full interview shows CNN was incredibly deceptive in their editing job. Ron Paul did not 'storm off,' but instead the interview was over after 8 long (and unprofessional) minutes.
The poster notes:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 9-year-old autistic boy who misbehaved at school was stuffed into a duffel bag and the drawstring pulled tight, according to his mother, who said she found him wiggling inside as a teacher's aide stood by.
The mother of fourth-grader Christopher Baker said her son called out to her when she walked up to him in the bag Dec. 14. The case has spurred an online petition calling for the firing of school employees responsible.
OTTUMWA — An Ottumwa High School student has been charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism.

The charge is a Class D felony. Six was taken to a juvenile detention facility following her arrest.
Did Tampa-area police tie down, pepper-spray, and eventually kill a disturbed man who was arrested for public intoxication?
That's the account and accusation relayed by Reason.com. Over two years ago, 62-year-old Ohioan Nick Christie was detained for public intoxication while on a trip in the Tampa, Florida area.

Sanders said he thought he had been previously cleared in the incident, a claim with which Chief Burton disagreed.

GoDaddy after blustering about how they will not drop support for SOPA just caved in after only a few hours. It's a rather remarkable event for a massive corporation to lobby for and advocate for a bill to only then completely reverse themselves within a 24-hour time span. This is a perfect example of the swift justice doled out through the market economy, there is no waiting for committees, passing around petit... (more)
Wanna buy a city hall? A library? A golf course? A cemetery? How about a fire station?
Financially troubled Pontiac -- perhaps foreshadowing what's in store for Detroit -- tried to tell its residents at a public hearing Tuesday that it was putting most of its assets up for sale.
But except for the mayor, the city's emergency manager, his assistant and a lone reporter, no one came.
1. This is capitalism. We live in a capitalistic country.
We can argue over the best label for the economic system in the United States of America, but there can be little argument that “capitalism” or “free market” are among the worst and most inaccurate labels for what we have in America today. With quantity and price controls rampant throughout multiple, major U.S. markets, regulations galore, and some of the highest corporate tax rates ... (more)
A defense spending bill that passed both houses of Congress overwhelmingly and is set to be signed by President Barack Obama as early as this week could make it easier for the government to transfer American terrorist suspects to foreign regimes and security forces.
The National Defense Authorization Act (PDF) contains a section that says the president has the power to transfer suspected members and supporters of Al Qaeda, the Taliban, or "associated" groups "to the custody or... (more)
Alaska militia leader Schaeffer Cox is asking the court to throw out FBI recordings made by a confidential informant because the informant took actions that were “analogous to kidnapping” and turned Cox’s life into a version of the Jim Carrey movie The Truman Show.
In a filing on Monday, Cox attorney Nelson Traverso argued that the judge should suppress all of the recordings made by the FBI’s confidential informant, Gerald Olson.
US GDP gets revised down in the third quarter to 1.8 percent. Bad news for growth and bad for the debt-to-gdp ratio which sees the debt growing faster. Jobless claims declined, but does this just mean US businesses increasingly have fewer temporary workers left to fire? And, the rating's agency Fitch warned the US's debt burden is not the stuff of a AAA credit rating. ... (more)
