One of my friends believes that a second American revolution is imminent and will be sparked by the economic instability now rocking the continent. Frankly, I doubt it. Insurrections may occur, but I expect the US government to lumber along, dragging the world deeper into poverty and conflict for many years to come.
Upon hearing my friend out, however, my first thought was, "if a revolution erupts, it will resemble the French one of 1789 more closely than the American one o... (more)
This Wednesday will mark the ten-year anniversary of the opening of the Guantanamo prison camp. In The New York Times, one of the camp’s former prisoners, Lakhdar Boumediene, has an incredibly powerful Op-Ed recounting the gross injustice of his due-process-free detention, which lasted seven years. It was clear from the start that the accusations against this Bosnian citiz... (more)
In the face of mountains of evidence that the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT-IP Act (PIPA) will censor online speech, hurt Internet security and infrastructure, and criminalize tools used by human rights activists in oppressive regimes, supporters of the blacklist bills say one subject trumps all others: jobs.... (CN) - Pennsylvania state police officers do not have immunity from claims that they tortured a woman with pepper spray, cold water and urine while she was in custody and restraints, a federal judge ruled.
State troopers took Derena Madison into custody after a 2:30 a.m. traffic stop in which they arrested her friend for driving under the influence. When officers said they would tow the car, Madison exited to protest. Police arrested her for public drunkenness and disord... (more)
Voline writes "In a tweet early this morning, cybersecurity researcher Christopher Soghoian pointed to an internal memo of India's Military Intelligence that has been liberated by hackers and posted on the Net. The memo suggests that, "in exchange for the Indian market presence" mobile device manufacturers, including RIM, Nokia, and Apple (collectively defined in the document as "RI... (more)
Some residents at Danville Park Apartments are outraged over police firing at two dogs on the walkway outside their front doors.
The residents said the shooting killed one animal, injured another and put the tenants in danger of gunfire that left bullet holes in doors, walls and a wooden deck around 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
Witness accounts of the shootings contradict the reports of officers and a supervising sergeant.
A Detroit man who called 911 three times to report a break-in at his mother’s apartment has been ticketed for “misuse” of the emergency line, even though the reason he kept calling was because it took police hours to show up.

Following claims made by US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle that he punched Jesse Ventura for badmouthing US troops during a wake for a slain soldier in Coronado, California, Ventura has denounced the story as an outrageous lie, asserting that the event never happened.
Kyle, who has been the subject of numerous television interviews over the past few days while he promotes his new book, is a sniper marksmen who has been made into somewhat of a poster child for US military involvement in ... (more)
Seemed like a lie. Nonetheless, the thought of attacking someone physically because you disagree with their politics is deplorable. Imagine if a Ron Paul supporter attacked Santorum or some idiot for saying they're for mass murdering Iranians, these same idiots like O'Leilly would be going ape sh*t. Instead, they laugh about it and say how great this idiot is. - Chris
A few weeks ago, I was walking the streets of Washington, D.C. when I happened to look up and catch the eye of a red-faced young man wearing the two things which cause me dread -- the naive optimism of youth and a shirt that read "Go Green!"
He had a clipboard, too. Never a good sign. Nor was he alone -- his green-shirted cohorts swarmed the sidewalk, accosting every passersby whose attention they could capture with: "Do you have a moment for the environment?"
The analysis conducted by CanDo.com concludes that the video was posted by Huntsman supporters, not Ron Paul supporters... (more)
I find it comical the idea anyone would think attacking Huntsman, a complete nobody with zero name recognition, is somehow a productive use of their time. Just that by itself is unbelievable, of course, the first hit coming from Jon2012.com is incontrovertible. - Chris
KEENE, N.H. - The Christian values candidate in the Republican field is getting his baptism by fire in New Hampshire.

Even at this late date, one of the Banksters' most powerful media outlets (Communist Broadcasting System) glaringly omits a "certain someone" from this report on the upcoming New Hampshire Republican primary.
The political season has unleashed its predictable frenzy, much to delight of people who make a living off it. But to what end? There are only two types of politicians who end up holding office, wrote H.L. Mencken: "first, glorified mob-men who genuinely believe what the mob believes, and secondly, shrewd fellows who are willing to make any sacrifice of conviction and self-respect in order to hold their jobs."
The about sums it up. The plus side of elections is that sometimes the ... (more)

As reported recently, heavily armed agents of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stormed a Leesburg, Florida Social Security office. This supposed drill was unannounced, and was understandably frightening to the local visitors to that office.
The armed DHS thugs arrived in swat team fashion, surrounding the building with their blue and white SUVs, and ... (more)
CHICAGO (CBS) – A new state law requires those who buy drain cleaners and other caustic substances to provide photo identification and sign a log.

How the New Indefinite Detention Provisions can be used on Americans
Congress just passed, and the President just signed, a bill that gives legal authority to the President to kidnap and perpetually imprison persons, including American citizens, without the benefit of due process.
Members of Congress, in the days leading up to the vote, tried to assure their constituents that they have nothing to fear — that the bill doesn’t apply to Am... (more)

As I watched the TV bobble-heads trying to analyze the outcome of Tuesday’s Iowa caucuses, it became evident that those whose job it is to translate the agenda of the establishment to the rest of us could not explain the Ron Paul phenomenon. I doubt that any of these people are so intellectually dense as to miss the signi... (more)
We like locking people up in America. If incarceration were an Olympic sport, the United States would come away with every gold medal available and break a few world records in the process. Last January, four-term senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) announced that he would not seek reelection in the upcoming 2012 elections. This seems to have relieved any pressure of facing his constituency for approval, allowing him to push for some of the most draconian legislation in the history of the United States. Or, perhaps, he is just auditioning for a more powerful position like Secretary of Defense or Secretary of the DHS.
Besides his renewed pressure on Google and Twitter<... (more)
In a recent press conference Newt Gingrich was asked his opinion on decriminalizing marijuana and how the founding fathers would have reacted to marijuana. Newt's answer to the founding fathers question is shocking. Cenk Uygur breaks down Newt's ridiculous answer, and breaks down the history of marijuana and American presidents.
The other day, a local hamburger joint was advertising a 99 cent hamburger, and I took the offer. It was great. I wondered how they can make money this way. A few days later, my head still swimming with memories of that great experience, I went back. This time, I dug in a bit deeper and upgraded the order, including fries and a drink, and this time shelling out for my passenger too. The total bill came to $16. Wow. That's how they make money!
