As NATO and other Western nations are staging war games right off the shores of Iran, the mainstream media is waging an extensive propaganda campaign back home. Excuse after excuse has been handed down to us in the past few months, but is there really any justification in the world for the West to bring the same death and destruction to Iran that they have brought to Iraq? Is there any captured spy, or weapons program, or crazed dictator that is worth the creation of another human rights night... (more)
No one should doubt that President Barack Obama is prepared to use military force to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon if sanctions and diplomacy fail, the president’s former special assistant on Iran said.
Obama has “made it very clear” that he regards a nuclear- armed Iran as so great a threat to international security that “the Iranians should never think that there’s a reluctance to use the force” to stop them, Dennis Ross, who se... (more)
Rush Limbaugh says the NDAA is totally not like the patriot act, which is awesome and ONLY for terrorists, this NDAA is directed at indefinitely detaining AMERICANS and is more like something an authoritarian dictator would pass!
One of the unique things about the Constitution of the United States was that it guaranteed certain rights for its citizens. Those rights provided the foundation for an era of freedom and prosperity that was pretty much unprecedented in human history and dozens of other nations eventually copied many of the ideas contained in our Constitution and Bill of Rights because they worked so well. Of course our system never functioned perfectly, but when you compare it to what has gone on fo... (more)
The Department of Homeland Security has declared its intention to gather personal data on journalists or others who might use "traditional and/or social media in real time to keep their audience situationally aware and informed." I suppose that would include those of us at the Independent Institute who blog, tweet, and update Facebook.
New guidelines allow for a broader reach in collecting such pers... (more)
When the Financial Times started its series on "Capitalism in Crisis," I winced. Here we go yet again, an attempt to blame private enterprise for what are actually the failures of the state and paper money. And some writers — but not all — in the series have done exactly this, while obscuring the differences between free and unfree markets by referring only to the way "the system" has failed.
And what is the evidence of this failure? It is everywhere. Household income ... (more)
Recent U.S. economic data, such as the modest drop in the unemployment rate and the massive expansion of consumer credit, have suggested that the American economy is finally recovering. Opposite conclusions are being thrown at Europe, where many are convinced that recession is returning. Not surprisingly then, the dollar is currently hitting a multi-year high against the euro. The strength of the dollar itself is often held up as one of the major proof points that the U.S. economy is “impr... (more)
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, run neck-and-neck with President Obama in a general-election matchup, according to a new CBS News poll released late on Monday that shows the two front-runners in Tuesday's New Hampshire GOP primary running stronger against the president than their fellow Republicans.
Romney posts a two-point lead over Obama, 47 percent to 45 percent, within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points. He leads... (more)
Rand fights off a team of jackals and a CNN host who is intent on smearing his father as a racist who is against civil rights for black Americans. Great video.
I despise Romney, but his "corporate raiding" was one of the only good things he did, if only he stayed in the market and didn't have such power lust he'd actually be helping America rather than destroying it. - Chris
Ademo Freeman is sitting in a cage at Valley Street Jail in Manchester, NH.
His "crime"? Highlighting the double-standards claimed by some who wear "Manchester Police Department" badges on their costumes*. After a six-month ordeal, Ademo was found guilty of two "class a misdemeanors" for resisting (going limp) and one "class b misdemeanor" (for using chi... (more)
This morning I had to "serve" my country through the involuntary servitude of the jury system. Fortunately, I told the truth during the deliberations and got kicked off the jury as a result.
It all started with the summons a month or so ago, the government only gave me about 4 weeks advance notice. Fortunately, I didn't have a trip planned, as I've heard stories of people being forced to cut their vacations off early because they were drafted to "serve."
Awesome video from youtuber "faulkingtruth," he records police with his cell phone and one of the cops completely loses it and violently swipes his cell phone out of his hands. The man in the video stands up for himself and points out how the cop is a hypocrite, he asks the cop for his name and he refuses. The cop says the man's cell phone was somehow a weapon. The ... During the latest debate, George Stephanopoulos asked the candidates,“If you weren’t here running for president … what would you be doing on a Saturday night?”
Newt Gingrich responded, “I’d be watching the college championship basketball game.”
He nodded his head back and forth like he was 'with it.'

As long as law enforcement officials claim to have reasonable suspicion that you might be involved with committing a crime, they are free to affix a GPS tracking device to your car without your knowledge and monitor your every movement. At least this is the opinion of US Magistrate Judge David Noce from the Eastern District of Missouri, who recently decided that no warrant is needed to secretly track individuals suspected of criminal behavior.
It’s always a gamble to make predictions. I’ve had the benefit of seeing the 2012 predictions of the greats, and so far they don’t bode well. Marc Faber is not excited about our prospects for prosperity. Chris Mortenson and Gerald Celente and Richard Russell are also concerned. My sense is that 2012 will be a year of learning, of r... Haverhill MA cop was caught on video apparently threatening to arrest a man if that video had audio, all this after the cop allegedly entered his home without permission. The person who uploaded this video to YouTube claims that police detained him and threatened to arrest him on trumped up charges if he didn’t delete the video. - InjusticeEverywhere
There is apparently no shortage of mental deficients who claim they are Muslims and are easily duped by FBI "undercover employees" into ludicrous terror plots that never materialize.
The latest stooge is Sami Osmakac, a naturalized Yugoslavian who made a video -- no doubt at the urging of "undercover employees" -- describing his desire to take out infid... (more)
A silver lining of the global economic crisis is that millions of people have been awakened to the importance of sound money to a modern economy. The housing bubble and subsequent bust, excessive leveraging, reckless speculation, and the sovereign-debt crisis afflicting Europe and the United States would all have been averted had money been commodity-based (e.g., gold and silver) and therefore not subject to periodic devaluation by political authorities.
The liberals are at it again. They’re calling for another increase in the minimum wage in their purported attempt to help the poor. Two new minimum-wage articles have recently been posted on the liberal websites Counterpunch and Common Dreams. One is entitled “The Bogus Case Against the Minimum Wage Hike” by Dean Baker and John Schmitt and the other is “America&rs... (more)
