Florida Rep Matt Gaetz, Trump's only interesting pick, withdrew from consideration for Attorney General on Thursday due to his confirmation "unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition." "I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday," Gaetz said in a statement on X. "I appreciate their thoughtful feedback - and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I'll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump's DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1." "I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I'm certain he will Save America," Gaetz added. Rep. Thomas Massie said last week that Gaetz could be confirmed through a recess appointment but perhaps Trump decided to wave the white flag (we will likely find out soon what really happened). Barney Frank can run a gay brothel out of his Capitol Hill apartment but Matt Gaetz allegedly paying adult female hookers for sex is beyond the pale. "Gaetz did win reelection in November for the new Congress, which convenes Jan. 3, 2025," the AP reports. "But it's unclear whether he would take office. There are plans for a special election in Florida for his seat." Other than Tom Homan, who for all we know will only have a ceremonial position, Trump's cabinet is shaping up to be even worse than his first term.
