David Hogg: Blame Gov Rick Scott For Deputies Cowering, Not Their Boss Sheriff Scott Israel

Parkland shooting survivor turned Democrat activist David Hogg said Monday on MSNBC that Governor Rick Scott should be "held accountable" for elected Sheriff Scott Israel's deputies failing to engage the shooter.

For the record, Sheriff Israel is an elected official and Governor Rick Scott has no power over Israel's hiring decisions.

Hogg, appearing on MSNBC's Morning Joe, said the news [three deputies failed the engage the shooter] is "raising concern" in his community, before accusing elected officials of attempting the blame the shooting on "bureaucracy."

"They're in charge of them," Hogg said of those elected officials. "This is their fault."

"They should have been regulating them," he continued. "I'm not going to allow them to pressure these people because at the end of the day it's their fault. These elected officials are the boss of these sheriff personnel and just like the president is the boss of the FBI, Governor Rick Scott is essentially the boss of Scott Israel, the sheriff, and as such he should be held accountable.

"He can't just blame this on the bureaucracy and expect to get re-elected."

Hogg went on to praise high school football coach Aaron Feis, who died shielding students from the gunman, "unlike those cowardly Broward County Sheriff officials."

"Sadly, these are a few individuals that did not conduct their job correctly, but I don't think it's right that Governor Rick Scott is trying to blame this on the bureaucracy in an effort to get reelected."

As I reported earlier, Hogg said over the weekend that the deputies who failed to stop the shooter should not be criticized because "who wants to go down the barrel of an AR-15?"

Hogg also said the FBI should not be blamed for their failure to stop the shooter despite repeated warnings: "My father's a retired FBI agent and the FBI are some of the hardest working individuals I have ever seen in my life."

Hogg said President Trump on the other hand *can* be blamed for the shooting.

"He can't put that off on them [the FBI]. He is in charge of them and these people, what they love to do is push this off on bureaucracy and say it's not them," he said. "He is in charge of the FBI ... the executive branch is supposed to enforce laws and as such, President Trump is in charge of that and the FBI."

Hogg said we should wait to judge Sheriff Scott Israel until the investigation Israel is conducting into himself is complete, though he had no problem proclaiming the NRA to be "child murderers" despite them having nothing to do with this shooting.

In short, the FBI, Sheriff Israel and Israel's deputies are not to be blamed for the shooting despite having repeated warnings and repeated contacts with the shooter (who we've now learned even called police on himself).

On the other hand, Donald Trump, the NRA and Gov. Rick Scott are to be blamed, even though they had nothing to do with anything.
