Americans Still Regard Congress As Least Respected ProfessionWith mid-term elections just months away, Americans continue to view being a member of Congress as the least favorable of nine professions.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% of Adults share a favorable opinion of members of Congress. Seventy-two percent (72%) have an unfavorable view of congressmen. These findings include five percent (5%) who have a Very Favorable impression and 45% who have a Very Unfavorable view of the legislators.

54% Oppose Health Insurance Requirement in New Health LawFifty-four percent (54%) of U.S. voters oppose the requirement in the new federal health care bill that every American must buy or obtain health insurance.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 43% favor the requirement, which was on the losing end of a vote in Missouri Tuesday and is being challenged in court by a number of states.

Poll: Waning support for Obama on warsWASHINGTON — Public support for President Obama's Afghanistan war policy has plummeted amid a rising U.S. death toll and the unauthorized release of classified military documents, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows. Support for Obama's management of the war fell to 36%, down from 48% in a February poll. Now, a record 43% also say it was a mistake to go to war there after the terrorist attacks in 2001.

Record Low: Congress Ranks Last in Confidence in Institutions
PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup's 2010 Confidence in Institutions poll finds Congress ranking dead last out of the 16 institutions rated this year. Eleven percent of Americans say they have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress, down from 17% in 2009 and a percentage point lower than the previous low for Congress, recorded in 2008.

Letter From 1930's Finally Delivered To StocktonNearly 73 years after it was mailed, a letter written back in the 1930's finally arrived at its intended destination in Stockton this week.
The letter was just delivered to the Women's Center of San Joaquin County at 620 North San Joaquin Street in Stockton. Seven decades ago, the building was used as a convent.

Sniper Targets Oakland CopsOakland police have their hands full. In addition to a shootout on the freeway and a police-involved shooting at a BART station, officers are now on the hunt for an apparent sniper trying to take out officers.
"They hear gunshots and can feel the bullets pass by them," police spokesman Officer Jeff Thomason said. "They can hear them whizzing by."

23% Say U.S. Government Has the Consent of the GovernedThe notion that governments derive their only just authority from the consent of the governed is a foundational principle of the American experiment.
However, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% of voters nationwide believe the federal government today has the consent of the governed. Sixty-two percent (62%) say it does not, and 15% are not sure.
