Cop Claims Teen Assaulted Him, Video Shows He Assaulted Teen

Chris | InformationLiberation

Prince George's County, Maryland police officer Corporal Donald Taylor, a 13-year-veteran, claimed that after catching up to an aggressive youth who swung at him and began to flee, the youth reached for his gun, at which point he fired his gun at the youth in self defense. Despite this tale, newly released surveillance footage obtained by Fox 5 News shows the officer running up behind the youth, then smashing him in the head with his gun in a surprise attack, which triggered his gun to fire in the process.

The youth, 19-year-old Ryan Dorm, "spent about four months in jail before prosecutors dropped the charges against him," NBC Washington reports. Note, Dorm's lawyer says the police got this video two days after Dorm's arrest, yet they made him rot in jail for four months nonetheless.
"Well, the video contradicts what the officer originally wrote in his charging documents,” said Dorm’s lawyer, Jimmy Bell. “What it shows is that my client didn't lie. They print my client is a criminal. They put his face on television saying he committed these crimes, and he didn't."

Taylor was charged with second-degree assault last month.

Dorm and his lawyer filed a $10 million lawsuit against the police department and Taylor.
Unfortunately, as is the norm in these cases, police will simply rob taxpayers to pay a settlement. As to the cop's punishment, last we heard back in August of this year, he was on "administrative leave" with pay for the past six months. The old saying, "crime doesn't pay," doesn't apply if you're a police officer.

7692 Assuming it was a glock that the cop was carrying (most likely). It won't just go off when impacted (very very very unlikely). This means his finger was on the trigger when he smacked the kid. However. I would like to hear the cops side of the story.

148126 WTF!!! There is NO scenario where running up behind someone who is walking away from you and then smacking the shyt out of him with a gun as he turns around is ok. Cop or no cop, assaulted or not assaulted this cop blindsided this young man. 10 million is not enough, especially for the 4 months in jail. The cop should have to do 4 months for every one day this kid was in jail.

Are you serious? I would take NO COPS over CORRUPTED COPS any day! At least when there's no cops, you can bound together with friends and neighbors to protect yourselves, knowing that you have to. But with corrupted cops, they are worst than the criminals.

204186 We only see 10 seconds of this video; no one can be certain what happened in the time/space before this video camera became useful.
-Why was that other guy running after the "chase"?
-Why is the victim's gait so awkward right before he is had?
-What motivation did the officer have in chasing the victim?

99.999% of comments here are lazy prejudices and ignorant biases. Don't accept your initial judgement because I can guarantee that it's wrong. Decide whether it's race or power related or whatever after the facts are presented.

76119 Its not a question of what they have to deal with every day. The fact that they had this video soon after arresting this kid and kept him in prison for months for no reason with a lie is absolutely terrible.

Obviously not every police officer is like this, but the ones who are and don't bother to step forward sooner should no longer be allowed to retain that title or authority.

98199 Ok, I don't like the police. But dude was robbing a gas station, and got pistol whipped and the gun went off. Cop shouldn't have had his gun out but he was running. The text of the story doesn't tell you that ....

96241 The friend was wearing a ski mask, which is not illegal, yet he gets pistol whipped. Then, the piece of excrement officer lies in his police report to make the kid sound like he was going to kill the officer.
This officer should pay out of pocket for what he did.
Start making the officers caught breaking the law serve the time any citizen would, plus breach of oath fines, paid to the victims. Police brutality would almost cease to exist, and a lot more citizens would be safe.

68146 "I long for the day when law abiding citizens need a cop and there are none. I long for the day when people who criticize cops realize that these people have to endure the dregs of humanity every single day. They are constantly lied to and given attitude. They have about as thankless a job as you can imagine. I'd like to see any of you holier than thou ingrates do this job without shooting someone."

Don't take the job then. Cops are supposed to be a special breed held to a higher example. If you can't take the pressure do us a favour and don't become a cop. Oh man, its really hard is no excuse.
