Summary: Cal Thomas is the latest conservative figure to use the TV show 24 to forecast a nuclear attack on the United States. Conservatives have also looked to the TV series for justification of aggressive interrogation procedures.
In his January 30 syndicated column, Cal Thomas attacked "ideologically decrepit" Iraq war protesters and claimed: "Unlike Vietnam, the Islamofascists won't ... (more)
Been to the DMV lately? That’s your local Department of Motor Vehicles. Maybe you avoided it all together by applying on-line or by mail. But chances are you faced long lines and delays. Well, you might look back on the experience next year and think it was a breeze compared to what the federally mandated Real ID Act will require you to do. Let me explain.
Back in 2005, Congress approved an $82 billion dollar spending bill that incorporated a description of a new securit... (more)
WASHINGTON — Risking broad penalties for their residents, lawmakers in several states are fighting implementation of the Real ID Act, a federal measure that seeks to prevent non-compliant cardholders from boarding airplanes or entering federal facilities.
Opponents say national standards for drivers' licenses would be a costly creep into the arms of big brother. Supporters say it is intended to protect Americans' from fraud and potentially terror-related crimes.
John Reid, the Home Secretary, has been warned that Britain's safety could be put at risk if he succeeds in an attempt to lengthen the period that terrorist suspects can be held without charge. He told the Cabinet yesterday that he wanted to increase the 28-day maximum detention period available to detectives investigating alleged terrorist plots.
Mr Reid was accused of trying to make political capital from the massive operation by West Midlands Police. But... (more)
Details are emerging about the involvement of a Taliban-aligned drug lord with the U.S. government, The New York Times will report on its Friday front page.
"In April 2005, federal law enforcement officials announced that they had arrested an Afghan drug lord and Taliban ally named Hajji Bashir Noorzai in New York and charged him with drug smuggling," writes James Risen for the Times. "Now, as Noorzai's case moves toward trial, likely later this year, a f... (more)
Yesterday the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies issued a report saying that Iran is 2 to 3 years away from having a nuclear weapon. In August, 2005, the U.S. National Intelligence Estimate judged Iran to be roughly ten years away from having a nuclear weapon. Yet the image presented on Fox News today (February 1, 2007) was of nuclear bombs going off over U.S. citi... (more)
The Pentagon is expected to send Congress a $622.6 billion defense budget for 2008. The sum includes $141.7 billion to continue fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The numbers were confirmed by a Pentagon official Feb. 2.
The spending plan, to be delivered to lawmakers Feb. 5, is $6.2 billion more than the $616.4 billion the Pentagon is spending this year. But there are greater differences in the budget than those numbers alone suggest.
Earlier today, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) was heckled at the DNC winter meeting by audience members who are unhappy with her stance on the war in Iraq.
Clinton, who voted in 2002 to give President Bush the right to use force to overthrow the Saddam Hussein regime, spoke today of the non-binding resolution that will appear before the Senate next week as the first time the Democrats will "tell the president, 'no!'"

“Who stole my orange” is the plangent cry of Mike Wong, my computer technician as he bangs a hand on my desk. I don’t take it personally because I know he’s making a point. “Only two year ago I could buy four oranges for a dollar,” he says. “Today, one orange for one dollar. Who stole my orange? Where did it go?” “Down the rabbit hole,” I answer, “with pension plans.”
The question Mike asks could be answered f... (more)

Armed with a powerful moral case against Bush, whose lies are responsible for a war that has caused thousands of U.S. casualties and killed vast numbers of Iraqi civilians, Democratic leaders are damning Bush's war because it did not succeed!
The Bush regime lied and fabricated "evidence" that was used to deceive Congress, the American people, and the United Nations. The vice pres... (more)

Unnamed officials from two different US government agencies have told CNN that the Pentagon is looking at possible Iranian ties to a "brazen attack" on a meeting in Karbala which left five American troops dead.
As reported here previously, the attackers wore American combat fatigues, drove black GM Suburbans, carried American weapons and spoke English. The attack was bold and swift... (more)
So far, there are 2 things that we can say with certainty about the massacre of the 250 Iraqis outside Najaf on Monday. First, we know that there is no substantiating evidence to support the official version of events. And, second, we know that every media outlet in the United States slavishly provided the government’s version to their readers without fact-checking or providing eyewitness testimony.
This proves that those who argue that mainstream news is “filtered&rdq... (more)
