The Fascist Threat
Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.Oct 06
Everyone knows that the term fascist is a pejorative, often used to describe any political position a speaker doesn’t like. There isn’t anyone around who is willing to stand up and say: "I’m a fascist; I think fascism is a great social and economic system."

But I submit that if they were honest, the vast majority of politicians, intellectuals, and political activists would have to say just that.

Fascism is the system of gover

Bourne of War

"War is the health of the State."

The famous seven words appeared in an unfinished manuscript written by the progressive essayist Randolph Silliman Bourne (1886-1918) during World War I. In a collection of Bourne's essays entitled War and the Intellectuals (1964), editor Carl Resek explained the phrase's meaning. Resek wrote, "In its proper place it [the saying] mean

The Pirate Bay Adds Domain to Bypass Court Order
TorrentFreakOct 06
Showing how futile Internet censorship can be, The Pirate Bay has registered a new domain name to allow Belgian users to access the site and bypass a recent court order. For just a few dollars, The Pirate Bay should now be fully accessible in the future, and the site has already started redirecting Belgian users to their new home.

Yesterday the Antwerp Court of Appeal ordered the Belgian ISPs Belgacom and Telenet to initiate DNS blockades of 11 domains connected to The Pirate

Steve Jobs On 'Conspiracies'
InformationLiberationOct 05
"When you're young, you look at television and think, There's a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down. But when you get a little older, you realize that's not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want. That's a far more depressing thought. Conspiracy is optimistic! You can shoot the bastards! We can have a revolution! But the networks are really in business to give people what they want. It's the truth." - Steve Jobs, Interview in WIRED maga... (more)

Steve Jobs, RIP
Ryan McMakenOct 05
Steve Jobs, one of the most important entrepreneurs and innovators of both the 20th and 21st centuries, has died.

Will he receive the sort of veneration reserved to politicians when they die? That’s unlikely, although Steve Jobs typically did more good for humanity every day before lunch time than any politician has ever done in his whole life.

Jobs should be considered a great American icon in the same way that Michelangelo is associated with Italy or Mozar

How many cops have been busted thanks to Steve Job's iPhones?

A lot, that's for sure.

The iPhone is bringing down governments the world over. Even if governments do exploit it's technology to spy on people, people exploit it's technology to spy on the government.

I don't think I've ever once bought an Apple product, but people love them, he made computers hyper simple and introduced millions and millions of people to an incredible technology they otherwise probably never would have tried.

What a shame he is now dead!

RIP Steve Jobs! - Chris, InfoLib

The business of Apple wasn't politics
Washington ExaminerOct 05
Steve Jobs just passed away, we learned tonight. He changed the world through his creativity and his will. Compared to his competitors, though, he didn't really try to change the world through politics.

Under Jobs, Apple largely avoided the unseemly games of campaign contributions and lobbying.

Consider this extraordinary fact: despite being a $100-billion-a-year company in a rapidly changing industry, Apple never formed a political action committee.
