Historian Adam Fergusson discusses his cult-classic history of the Weimar hyperinflation, When Money Dies, with James Turk from the GoldMoney Foundation. They discuss the fateful decisions that led to hyperinflation in post-First World War Germany, and how central bankers as well as ordinary members of the public today would be well advised to heed this warning from hi... I have come to the conclusion that Big Brother's subjects in George Orwell's 1984 are better informed than Americans.
Americans have no idea why they have been at war in the Middle East, Asia and Africa for a decade. They don't realize that their liberties have been supplanted by a Gestapo Police State. Few understand that hard economic times are here to stay.
On October 27, 2011, the US government announced some routine economic statistics, and the president of t... (more)
Hardly a week goes by without me seeing another think piece on the question: “Are we winning the war on drugs?”
That depends on who “we” is. The War on Drugs has certainly served some very powerful interests in our society. Between the Drug War and the War on Terror, we’ve militarized police culture with SWAT teams, turned the Fourth through Sixth Amendments into toilet paper, and created the biggest prison-industrial complex in the world. From the st... (more)
Hard to keep track of what’s illegal these days. The most innocuous deeds can land a serf behind bars even as crimes worthy of a sociopath earn rulers the Nobel Prize.
And so the Feds order some drones to kill American citizens and others to sexually assault them. You might think cops who pretend they joined "the force" to protect rather than lord it over us... (more)
In Oakland, California, where I live, the Occupiers have been struggling to keep their ground on Ogawa Plaza, a piece of public property in front of City Hall. On the night of Tuesday, October 25, I saw from my apartment, miles northeast of the action, dozens of police cars zoom in from a neighboring jurisdiction. I looked at an online police scanner where the Oakland police department described the situation as a riot and requested a multi-county tactical response. Hundreds of police, ... (more)
3,970. That is how many times between October 1, 2009 and September 30, 2010, federal judges let the government avoid telling someone that their home or office had been searched, and that law enforcement officers rifled through and potentially even seized their personal belongings. We contacted the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts to obtain up-to-date numbers on how frequently the government uses the "sneak and peek" searches (also called delayed-notice searches), a government su... Excellent video juxtaposes the Obama regime's condemnation of foreign governments' police state crackdowns with the police state crackdowns the Obama regime is carrying out at home.
Following the announcement that TSA agents would be involved in manning highway checkpoints in Tennessee, the State’s Homeland Security Commissioner said yesterday that a raft of new “security checkpoints” would be in place over the Halloween period to “keep roadways safe for trick-or-treaters”.
Well, if it’s ‘for the children’, who are we to kick up a fuss?
“State Troopers will be conducting safety checkpoints,... (more)
Rick Santorum has built his presidential campaign (such as it is) around his incontinent desire for war with Iran. It's not surprising, therefore, that he has openly endorsed a campaign of state terrorism against Iran, in the form of targeted assassinations -- while condemning the Iranian government for allegedly scheming to do the same thing against the U.S.
During a recent visit to New Hampshire, Santorum cited a supposed plot by Iranian agents to assassinate the Saudi Ambas... (more)
In late 2010 Pete and I were in the mist of our second tour around the country doing LibertyOnTour.com. It was during that time we started shooting Uncle Sam videos. The idea for these videos is, if “Uncle Sam” – the government – was a real person what would he be like? Would he have any... (more)
Pastor Anderson preaches "the good word" to a checkpoint thug!
"This is for all those people who said I should have been "witnessing" at the checkpoint. It turns out that it's "not a good time" for them. That's pretty much what I figured."
Have you heard the good news? Financial armageddon has been averted. The economic collapse in Europe has been cancelled. Everything is going to be okay. Well, actually none of those statements is true, but news of the "debt deal" in Europe has set off a frenzy of irrational exuberance throughout the financial world anyway. Newspapers all over the globe are declaring that the financial crisis in Europe is over. Stock markets all over the world are soaring. ... (more)
Last week, I spent the afternoon visiting the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations in lower Manhattan. I brought a film crew and a sign that said "I Am The 1%, Let's Talk." The purpose was to understand what was motivating these protesters and try to educate them about what caused the financial crisis. I went down there with the feeling that much of their anger was justified, but broadly misdirected.
Indeed, there were plenty of heated discussions. I did little more than ask how muc... (more)
WINDSOR, Ont. -- A Windsor cop pounded an innocent man senseless, then he and other officers lied to cover up the crime, according to a $14.2-million lawsuit filed by a doctor beaten up by Det. David Van Buskirk.
"These facts demonstrate the pervasive and malicious operation of the Windsor Police culture," says the statement of claim filed in Superior Court by Dr. Tyceer Abouhassan.
The statement of claim, which has yet to be tested in court, paints a picture of wha... (more)
A stray-bullet victim says she was held prisoner for five days at a Brooklyn police station because detectives didn't believe her story about the shooting, the Daily News has learned.
Takesha Griffin, 35, said she was handcuffed to a bench in the squad room or locked in a filthy holding cell at the 73rd Precinct stationhouse during a spirit-shattering stretch last month. Cops asked her repeatedly if she was ready to cough up the real story.
The claims led to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary delaying a report into undercover police tactics at the last minute.
It had been due to be published today and was thought to be critical of the police.
Lawyers for a convicted protester claim a Metropolitan Police officer called Jim Boyling, posing as an activist, was prosecuted alongside their client and lied under oath to conceal his true identity.

Earlier today we wrote about how Justin Bieber's lawyers were threatening the folks behind the FreeBieber advocacy project, which highlights some of the problems with Senator Amy Klobuchar's dangerous and ill-thought out bill to make streaming video a possible felony. It appears that his "people" didn't discuss this much with Bieber himself. During a radio interview... (more)
"If we have to use force, it is because we are America. We are the indispensable nation. We stand tall. We see further into the future."
This panegyric to what is commonly called "American Exceptionalism" could have been composed by any of a number of GOP-aligned media figures, such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, or their legions of local imitators. Those words were actually spoken by Madeleine Albright in 1998, when she was the Clinton administration... (more)
