Money and Finance as if You Mattered
Jeffrey TuckerApr 19
During the 2008 credit crisis, a horde of central bankers, Treasury officials and large corporations screamed that the end of the world was upon us — unless trillions of your money were spent (or created) to prop up the existing financial and banking systems.

The presumption was that the existing structure must never be changed, or the Fed's control over the financial and monetary system ever brought into question. Everything is just as it should be. This is a minor blip on

We're All Branch Davidians Now
Anthony GregoryApr 19
Nineteen years ago, just outside Waco, Texas, the FBI demonstrated once again that the state at its core is a killing machine. Monarchy, democracy, or republic – any government as conventionally defined is a legal monopoly on violence. The state is always inclined toward oppression, division, conquest, and bloodshed, because these are its tools of trade.

Matters are no different here. The myth of a free America was always seen with bitter irony by those not ble

In this story out of Missouri, a public schoolteacher refused to let a little 6-yr-old kindergarten girl go to the bathroom "during a test," the little girl embarrassingly relieved herself while in the classroom, and rather than clean up or take actions to fix the situation, the teacher made her sit in her own excrement for 15 minutes until the test was over, then handed her a garbage bag to wrap aroun

The Bizarre World of Plastic Fees
Jeffrey TuckerApr 18
Most everyone is really down on financial companies these days. What kind of scam are they running, anyway? It seems as if everywhere we turn, there are fees, fees, fees. Because most everyone has some kind of credit or debit card, the popular mind is particularly focused on them, expecting to find signs of exploitation and graft.

Let's look a bit closer.

A friend of mine is in a Virginia diner and receives an odd offer with the check. There is a note: If you pay wi

The Too Big To Fail Banks Are Now Much Bigger And Much More Powerful Than Ever
The Economic CollapseApr 18
The Democrats, the Republicans and especially Barack Obama promised that something would be done about the too big to fail banks so that they would never again be a threat to destroy our financial system.  Well, those promises have not been kept and the too big to fail banks are now much bigger and much more powerful than ever.  The assets of the five biggest U.S. banks were equivalent to about 43 percent of U.S. GDP before the financial crisis.  ... From Innovation to Rent Seeking
Doug FrenchApr 18
It's often thought that the technology sector is the least regulated and therefore has been the most productive during the past couple of decades. Famously, Bill Gates had no interest in politics. "In the beginning, Microsoft tried to ignore the powerful political forces arrayed against it, hunkering down in Redmond, Washington, to focus on its core businesses," William F. Shugart wrote in the Freeman. Of course, the Department of Justice snapped Mr. Gates to attention.
