![]() Russia is interested in holding new military exercises with China involving Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said Wednesday. “We have not yet reached any specific accords but the General Staff and I would like to plan such exercises in the future and involve SCO member states,” Ivanov was quoted by RIA-Novosti as saying at a meeting with President Putin in Sochi. The first Sino-Russian joint military exercises took place in mid August and involved more than 10,000 military personnel from both sides The exercisies, titled Peace Mission-2005 took place on the Shandong Peninsula in the Yellow Sea and focused on countering terrorism and piracy. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, an intergovernmental organization founded in Shanghai in June 2001, includes six countries: China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. |
