'Transgender' Man Identified as Minneapolis Catholic School Mass Shooter

A 23-year-old "transgender" male has been identified as the gunman who unloaded on a group of children at a Catholic school in Minneapolis on Wednesday.

The Minneapolis Police Department confirmed an active shooter opened fire at a church on the city's south side Wednesday morning, killing two children and injuring 17 others.

Police say the shooter died by suicide following the rampage, and there is no longer a threat to the community. Hours after the shooting, law enforcement sources told KARE 11 Investigates reporter A.J. Lagoe that the shooter is a 23-year-old named Robin Westman. Lagoe also learned that the gunman grew up in Richfield, and his mother worked at Annunciation School in some capacity.

Court documents show that when he was 17, Westman applied in Dakota County to change his birth name from Robert to Robin. That request was granted in January of 2020.

[...] The chief confirmed that two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed in the hail of bullets. Another 17 suffered gunshot wounds, and 14 of those were students. Two of the injured are in critical condition.

"This was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshiping," O'Hara said, his voice breaking. "The sheer cruelty and cowardice of firing into a church full of children is absolutely incomprehensible."
The shooter posted video of his arsenal along with a suicide note on YouTube before the attack.

He also posted a video appearing to flip through a diary detailing his scheme that appears to have been written in code with Cyrillic and Russian.




Near the end of his "diary," he flipped to a page appearing to show a layout of the church, at which point he stabbed it with a knife and said "nice."

The videos portrayed someone who was deeply mentally ill.

"This was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshiping," Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said during a press conference on Wednesday. "The sheer cruelty and cowardice of firing into a church full of children is absolutely incomprehensible."
