President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday nominated Robert F Kennedy Jr to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

Trump's transition co-chair Howard Lutnick said just two weeks ago that RFK Jr. would not be getting the job.

"I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS)," Trump said in a statement Thursday on X. "For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health."

"The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country," he added.

"Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!"

"HHS has a budget of nearly $2 trillion and administers federal health programs including Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act," The Hill reports:
The position requires Senate confirmation. While it could be difficult, the nomination is a sign Trump feels empowered by the comfortable Republican majority in the upper chamber.

Trump has also raised the prospect of sidestepping the confirmation process with recess appointments.
Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie celebrated the pick as an "excellent choice!"

Massie was asked on Wednesday if Matt Gaetz could make it through Senate confirmation and responded, "He doesn't need to -- we're in recess."

"He's the Attorney General," Massie said, confident that a recess appointment will get Gaetz into Trump's cabinet. "Suck it up!"

The same may need to be used for RFK Jr considering his background.

During his first term, Trump picked former Big Pharma lobbyist Alex Azar to lead HHS.

Hopefully, RFK Jr can get in and do some actual good. Scientific fraud is an epidemic in America that needs to be addressed.
