Iran’s Bushehr Plant Ready to Accept Russian Fuel Soon — Official

The Bushehr nuclear plant will be put into operation and launch processing of nuclear fuel in near future, Iran’s Foreign Manouchehr Mottaki said Tuesday, during his visit to Armenia, the RIA-Novosti news agency reported.

The development of the Bushehr nuclear power plant has been completed, in full compliance with international standards, Mottaki told a news conference in Yerevan, Armenia. In the near future, that plant will be ready to accept nuclear fuel Russia has pledged to supply, he added.

Mottaki said that Russia’s proposals on Iran’s nuclear program were still on the agenda for talks between the two countries, the Interfax news agency reported.

“Russia’s proposal (for the creation of a joint uranium enrichment enterprise on Russian territory for Iranian nuclear power plants — Interfax) could serve as a good basis, but there still remain certain issues which need to be refined. I think the sides will soon set new timescales for continuing talks on this issue,” Mottaki said.

“A first round of talks has been held in Tehran, but the need for additional talks has now arisen,” he added.

At the same time he confirmed that Tehran is firmly committed to implementing its plan for the peaceful use of atomic energy.
