New Normal: Women Carjacked While Going Shopping At Mall in San Francisco Bay Area

Two women who were going to return a pair of jeans at a shopping mall in the San Francisco Bay Area were filmed getting carjacked by a group of thugs in broad daylight on Monday.

The 2 are visiting CA & were going to return a pair of jeans to H&M. As soon as they parked police say at least 3 suspects involved ripped their purses away & stole the car.

I reviewed Emeryville crime reports & since May found at least 3 victims of robbery/carjacking in the garage & a number of robberies (some w/weapons) at different stores.

Waiting for mall property manager to respond w/what safety measures are being done after these incidents.

KRON-4 reported last month that carjackings are up 750% in San Francisco's tourist hot spots.

…tried to break in the passenger side window & then broke the one behind it, CLIMBED IN & stole her purse & backpack. You can see traffic prevented her escape.

The woman told me she didn’t leave her house for days after the incident.

What’s sad to me is that the woman said it took awhile for anyone to offer help. She said she was screaming during the ordeal. It wasn’t until 30 minutes later someone called police. (I believe her phone was stolen in the incident.)

Every. Single. Day. I get multiple messages from business owner and homeowners who were vandalized or targeted. It’s hard to keep up.

SFPD have responded to a number of auto burglaries & robberies in this area related to a dispensary there.

A recent report showed a 753% increase in car break-ins in tourist areas f/May 2019 to 2020.

But this is scary to me since it involves a weapon in a non-tourist area.

These videos were sent to me while my colleagues reported on 7700+ auto burglaries this year in SF.

My team is awaiting more info on these cases particular cases.

I asked him (as I usually do w/Asian victims) if he felt targeted b/c of his race given the increase in reported attacks.

He says maybe his was random but believes criminals target neighborhoods w/Asians b/c Asians are believed to carry cash. #StopAAPIHate

Who was it who said "super predators," again?

He didn’t think anything of it. Then they surrounded him pushed him to the ground & grabbed his car keys.

You can hear Mr. Lim yelling “No! No!” several times as his wallet was also taken. He wasn’t hurt.

Mr. Lim is 1 of 4 incidents I know of inv an Asian person being attacked in the past week or so

This includes 2 Viet women. 1 so terrified aft being held at gunpoint she couldn’t bear to share the surveillance & her story publicly. She said it would be re-living the horror. 3/3
