New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin took a local reporter's photo of Montana GOP candidate Greg Gianforte's citation and tried to pass it off as his own. Whitney Bermes of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle posted a photo of the citation to Twitter at 10:11 AM EST on Thursday:
At 10:55 AM EST Martin posted the exact same photo claiming, "I've obtained a copy of the Gallatin Co summons for Gianforte's assault charge":
Bermes countered:
Bermes told The Daily Caller: "I was one of two reporters to get the first copies of the citation. I immediately took a photo of it. I know it is mine because there was a shadow in my phone and I also used a small scrap of paper from my reporter's notebook to cover up Mr. Gianforte's driver's license information."If it wasn't obvious enough, one Twitter user made a short video in photoshop showing without a doubt it's the exact same photograph:
