Seattle Police disciplined wrong cop in jaywalker punching

The Seattle Police Department mistakenly disciplined the wrong officer in a case involving two cops who assaulted a jaywalker in the Rainier Valley, a department official said Wednesday.

The mistake meant the officer who was supposed to be disciplined – after punching a handcuffed suspect – escaped a permanent punitive mark on his record, in a case that prompted outcry about police aggressiveness earlier this year.

[...]when it came time to discipline the puncher, a human-resources employee mistakenly sent the discipline notice to the tackler. By the time the mistake was discovered, a few days later, the department had missed its 180-day, union-negotiated deadline to finish investigations against accused officers.
