From Philly.com:
A West Philadelphia man is in critical condition after a Philadelphia police officer mistook him for a burglar Wednesday evening and shot him in the arm.

About 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, a police officer responded to a call for a burglary in progress at a house on the 6000 block of Christian Street. When the officer, who was in uniform and in a marked vehicle, arrived on scene the front door of the house was open, said police spokesman Lt. Ray Evers.

There was some sort of confrontation between the police officer and a man inside the house right before the police officer pulled out his gun and fired one shot, which struck the man in the arm.

The bullet went through the man's arm and into his chest, Evers said. He was taken to the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, where he is listed in critical condition.

"No weapon was found on the person shot," Evers said.

[...]Police are not sure if there even was a burglary at any point Wednesday at the victim's home. They are trying to track the initial 911 call that reported a burglary at the home.
The police are not releasing any details.
