ANTI-HATE BILL SET FOR PASSAGE

Senate Bill 1145, "The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2005," is nearing approval, despite efforts of such well-known activists as Rev. Ted Pike who, in an Internet post, claims the bill has a "hidden yet supremely dangerous agenda." The bill empowers the federal government, he notes, "to assume control of local hate crimes law enforcement. It establishes unity between federal and local law enforcement, thus creating the beginnings of a 'police state.'"

Pike declares that the bill would be used by its principle sponsor, the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, to enable enforcement of "persecution against Christians" for protesting at gay pride rallies and similar events, as it was in 2004 in Pennsylvania under that state's "hate law."

He also writes, more forebodingly, that the "real goal of S.1145 is to grant permission to the federal government to control local civil rights law enforcement."
