 These ear tags are becoming a thing of the past as states try out high-tech identification chips. (Photo courtesy of the USDA) The federal government is phasing in a national identification tracking system for livestock to help trace and curb threats, such as Mad Cow disease and even bio-terrorism. One state is even advancing what it calls micro-chip, injectable social security numbers for livestock. But many farmers worry that Big Brother may be moving into the barn.
