U.S. Story on Iran Nuke Facility Doesn't Add Up
IPS NewsOct 03
WASHINGTON, Sep 29 (IPS) - The story line that dominated media coverage of the second Iranian uranium enrichment facility last week was the official assertion that U.S. intelligence had caught Iran trying to conceal a "secret" nuclear facility.

But an analysis of the transcript of that briefing by senior administration officials that was the sole basis for the news stories and other evidence reveals damaging admissions, conflicts with the facts and unanswered questions that under

G20 Leaders call for restructured world economic governance
France24Sep 28
You never hear it asked, "Why should the U.S. give a damn about what Communist China or some other dictatorship thinks about our policies?"

The U.S. President is supposed to represent the U.S. people, he is supposed to be accountable to us, he should not be off meeting with world leaders and allowing them to direct U.S. policies, yet that is exactly what they are openly doing. They are putting the people of their own countries aside and allowing foreign governments to determine their domestic and foreign policies. That's treason.

Swine flu 'could kill millions unless rich nations give £900m'
The ObserverSep 20
The swine flu pandemic could kill millions and cause anarchy in the world's poorest nations unless £900m can be raised from rich countries to pay for vaccines and antiviral medicines, says a UN report leaked to the Observer.

The disclosure will provoke concerns that health officials will not be able to stem the growth of the worldwide H1N1 pandemic in developing countries. If the virus takes hold in the poorest nations, millions could die and the economies of fragile countri

FARC is the best instrument of US empire: Morales
Colombia ReportsAug 27
The FARC are "the best instrument of the U.S. empire" as the fight against the guerrillas has become the pretext for U.S. military presence in Colombia, Bolivian President Evo Morales said Monday.

"The U.S. is using the fight against the FARC to justify their military presence in Colombia. I regret to say: they are the best instrument of the empire at the moment," Morales said at a press conference.

Honduras: Military Coup Engineered By Two US Companies?
John PerkinsAug 21
I recently visited Central America. Everyone I talked with there was convinced that the military coup that had overthrown the democratically-elected president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, had been engineered by two US companies, with CIA support. And that the US and its new president were not standing up for democracy.

Earlier in the year Chiquita Brands International Inc. (formerly United Fruit) and Dole Food Co had severely criticized Zelaya for advocating an increase of

North Korea: Bill Clinton Trip May Be Seen As A Triumph But Reality Is The US Will Pay A High Price
SKY NewsAug 07
The release of the two US television journalists from North Korea may be regarded as a triumph but the reality is that the US may have paid a high price to bring the women home.

When Mr Clinton touched down in North Korea, the former president was seen as the man who could force the hand of Kim Jong Il and orchestrate the release of the journalists.

But it later emerged that it was Kim Jong Il himself who had invited Mr Clinton to Pyongyang and had guaranteed freedo

U.S.-built bridge is windfall — for illegal Afghan drug trade
McClatchy Newspapers Jul 07
NIZHNY PANJ, Tajikistan — In August 2007, the presidents of Afghanistan and Tajikistan walked side by side with the U.S. commerce secretary across a new $37 million concrete bridge that the Army Corps of Engineers designed to link two of Central Asia's poorest countries.

Dressed in a gray suit with an American flag pin in his lapel, then-Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez said the modest two-lane span that U.S. taxpayers paid for would be "a critical transit route for trad

The Honduran coup: another US destabilization operation
World Socialist Web SiteJul 02
While publicly opposing the military coup that ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya on Sunday, the Obama administration on Monday indicated that it will not cut off aid to the Central American country or demand Zelaya’s reinstatement.

Following a White House meeting with Washington’s closest Latin American ally, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, President Obama reiterated the position that the ouster of Zelaya was illegal. However, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

Mousavi, Celebrated in Iranian Protests, Was the Butcher of Beirut
CQ PoliticsJun 26
He may yet turn out to be the avatar of Iranian democracy, but three decades ago Mir-Hossein Mousavi was waging a terrorist war on the United States that included bloody attacks on the U.S. embassy and Marine Corps barracks in Beirut.

Mousavi, prime minister for most of the 1980s, personally selected his point man for the Beirut terror campaign, Ali Akbar Mohtashemi-pur, and dispatched him to Damascus as Iran's ambassador, according to former CIA and military officials.

Gorbachev: It's time for a second American revolution in the spirit of perestroika
Mikhail GorbachevJun 14
Years ago, as the Cold War was coming to an end, I said to my fellow leaders around the globe: the world is on the cusp of great events, and in the face of new challenges all of us will have to change, you as well as we. For the most part, the reaction was polite but sceptical silence.

In recent years, I have often told listeners that I feel Americans need their own change - a perestroika, not like the one in my country, but an American perestroika - and the reaction has been mark
