Right-wing Alternative for Germany co-leader Tino Chrupalla, whose party recently surged in the polls to second place, was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday after allegedly being stabbed with a syringe at a campaign event.
The AP is only reporting there was a "violent incident" but German outlet Junge Freiheit is covering the allegation it was an attack. From JF Online, "Attack with a syringe? AfD confirms physical attack on Chrupalla" (as translated by Google): INGOLSTADT. There was apparently an attack on AfD leader Tino Chrupalla at an AfD election campaign event in Ingolstadt. According to JF information, he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with blue lights flashing. A police spokesman confirmed to JUNGE FREIHEIT that an operation was currently underway on site. A party spokesman told the JF: "At an AfD election campaign event in Ingolstadt today there was an physical incident against our party's federal spokesman, Tino Chrupalla. He was therefore taken to a hospital, where his health condition is currently being clarified." The German outlet Reitschuster is reporting that Chrupalla is "unresponsive" and his condition is "serious." From Reitschuster, "Unresponsive: 'Chrupalla's condition is serious' " (as translated by Google): "The situation is more serious than expected. Tino Chrupalla is still in the hospital and unresponsive. Someone really did prick him and inject something!" Peter Bystron, AfD member of the Bundestag, said this to reitschuster.de in the evening about the condition of the AfD leader after the alleged attack on him in Ingolstadt.Chrupalla made headlines last week after he revealed his bank account was closed over his political views.
AfD's other co-leader Alice Weidel was recently placed under police protection due to credible threats against her life and AfD politician Andreas Jurca was "beaten to a pulp" in an organized attack by a gang of migrants who recognized him.
The AfD party has been viciously demonized by the media who present them as the second coming of Hitler and the Nazis and the German government recently threatened to ban the party outright despite their surging popularity in order to "defend democracy."
