Woman Suffers Third-Degree Burns After Police Pin Her To Burning Hot Asphalt

Chris | InformationLiberation

Las Vegas police reportedly pinned a woman to burning hot asphalt for three minutes straight as her skin literally cooked on the street. She suffered third-degree burns as a result, and her leg was left severely disfigured.

From 8 News Now:
LAS VEGAS -- A Las Vegas woman is suing the Metropolitan Police Department saying she was literally given the "third degree."

Local artist Cristina Paulos received third degree burns during an encounter with police after a traffic accident.

It all began on a hot August day when a car crash and a woman's arrest led to severe burns from scorching pavement and a lawsuit alleging excessive force.

"So, this is two years of healing. So, it's got a lot better, it used to look a lot worse," Paulos said.

The images of the woman's injuries are graphic. She fears she will forever bear the scars from an encounter with Metro Police in Aug. 2011.

"I was held down by police and security at the Palms property. And from that, I got third degree burns on my legs," Paulos said.

She admits driving her car into the exit lanes of the Palms hotel and hitting two cars in the process. But she was not drunk or high on drugs. She was later diagnosed as having a mental disorder that she now manages with medication. But her behavior was definitely erratic following the crash. She first ran from the scene then returned and climbed into one the car's she hit.

Casino surveillance video shows her getting out of that car and coming face-to-face with a Metro officer, who, after a brief interaction, takes her to the pavement. The high temperature that day was 104 degrees, but the asphalt was certainly much hotter.

"I literally thought I was in hell, what I believed was hell at the time because my flesh was burning. My skin was burning," she said.

The I-Team wanted to see how long Paulos' body was in contact with the asphalt. A clock was started the moment she came into contact with the pavement and it shows she was on the hot ground for more than three minutes.
The police denied any responsibility and said her injuries were her own fault.

If police don't know how to deal professionally and SAFELY with people, they should NOT wear a badge or father children.

ALL public servants should wear camera's turned on at all times.

168233 thats cool.

i would just find where they live and run UP TO THEM AND THROW ACID IN THEIR FACES

don't sue for money

eye for an eye or it will never stop.

587 I'd love to see a cop rolling around on the floor, screaming in agony, as acid melts his face

18155 "i would just find where they live and run UP TO THEM AND THROW ACID IN THEIR FACES "

I agree with you 100 percent as these monsters need a lesson, every time they do something evil just pay with evil, those are not humans, those are monsters that came out of a scary movie

216255 Well, when cops start getting "hurt" because of their actions, then I guess it's their own fault!

6860 Once the people of this world wake up, it will be the cops and their families that have to hide. This will not go on unpunished, forever. These brutes will be seen for what they are, just as the soldiers in Nazi Germany, and then they will pay for their war crimes against the people they swore to protect.

146135 This type of thing happens every summer here in Vegas. Metro officers are nothing but bullies and arrogant ASSHOLES. they should take some lessons in respecting the public they work for from the Nevada Highway Patrol guys ..not that they are perfect either but compared to the Metro scum they are angels

216196 The trouble with suing is that it won't cost the cop a dime, the taxpayers will pay for it. At the very least he should be fired, but our system is so corrupt that that is almost impossible.

69121 Out of control cops (who will not be punished and the taxpayers will pixk up the tab), yet another violation of our rights. The govít constantly violates our rights.

They violate the 1st Amendment by caging protesters and banning books like "America Deceived II".

They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by allowing TSA to grope you.

They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars.

Impeach Obama.

17381 Having stayed at the Palms in August, I can attest that that the entire area is a giant frying pan.

16272 I thought what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas.

18410 While living in Las Vegas about 15 years ago, I met an elderly German man who spoke to me about living under the Nazis. He said that you had more freedom there than in America today, "just as long as you didn't slander the Nazi party". He particularly mentioned American police. Funny thing - I moved to a smaller town in Arizona where my next door neighbour was German. His elderly mother came over to visit him, and said almost the identical things which the old man had said. "You think you have freedom here, but it is still better in Germany!"

67142 Same thing happened to me two weeks ago in Las Vegas, stopped for cell phone use while driving, told to get out of car leave window all the way down, leave door open. I refused...Pig Xackson maced me in my car, tried to break the window, reached in broke turn signal trying to get keys, pulled me out on ground got a 200-481, defensive battery, went to jail for first time in my life, 58 yrs old.

Prisoners informed me that the LVMPD plants little presents to get you on felonies, makes em look good. My lawyer told me that the judges are afraid of the pigs unions, needs em to get their jobs. So on it goes, I was lucky.

The prisoners were by far more safer than the jailers.

753 Reading the comments above I realize that most of the commentors have not been in a situation like this on the law enforcers side. 3 minutes may sound like a lot of time but when you have an irrational person, and yes she admitted to that even though it was a medical condition HOW is the police officer supposed to know that, they go by fast and with her squirming and screaming, yes all suspects who get arrested when they are irrational act this way and scream Second, we could not hear what she was saying to him OR the other people that were on the scene nor does she say what she was saying was she threatening them and him? If yes isn't his job to protect the public? Was it traumatic for her? yes. was it excessive??? There are always 2 sides of the story and then there is the truth.

1738 Wow, nothing at all is said of a woman obviously is to insane to drive endangering everyone on the road. What if your kid was walking at the cross walk she drove through in the wrong direction. She was highly erratic and acting crazy. The cop did what he did to protect her and those around her. If it weren't for the cops taking out of control people out, these people would be everywhere.

98204 Sub-human is what cops are these days. 40 years ago I never would have believed that one day I would smile when I see a cop get hurt or worse.

Posted: Mar 21 2014, 1:05 AM

They are all of them criminals.

72234 1738 you said:
"If it weren't for the cops taking >out of control people out, < these people would be everywhere. "
WRONG, ButtLicks......
These goons are well aware of the hot temps; esp. the hot black asphalt that day.
With all their physical training they are strong enough to cuff the woman and take her off to the side in the shade and find out what's going on.
What used to be called->peace officers<- now called 'LAW' ENFORCEMENT....are nothing but APES!

2469 Looks like its fine to do the same to these officers family members. If the police do it then it must be legal right?
