  Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen unveiled a host of new sanctions targeting Russia on Wednesday but wheeling-and-dealing Russian-Jewish oligarch Roman Abramovich was notably missing from the list. Yellen said a month ago Abramovich "could" face sanctions and she would "certainly" not take it "off the table" in the future but no sanctions have been forthcoming. Abramovich was filmed fleeing to Israel on March 14 after the war broke out. The Chairman of Israel's Holocaust museum Yad Vashem, Dani Dayan, last month personally lobbied US officials to keep Abramovich off the sanctions list by telling them it would hurt donations.
It came out later that Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky himself -- who has plenty of experience making backroom deals with corrupt Israeli oligarchs -- quietly lobbied Joe Biden to keep Abramovich off the US's sanctions list by claiming he was helping "facilitate peace talks."
The Kremlin pushed back against such claims by saying Abramovich is not currently involved in peace talks and only took part "at the initial stage." In late March, the propaganda outlet Bellingcat came out with a ridiculous story claiming Abramovich was "poisoned" with "chemical weapons" during "peace talks" on "the night of 3 to 4 March 2022." The claims were an obvious lie because we knew from pictures and videos captured of Abramovich fleeing to Israel to dodge sanctions just around ten days later that he appeared to be in perfect health.
Bellingcat tried to cover for this obvious contradiction by claiming his purported "symptoms" allegedly "gradually subsided in the course of the following week" -- as chemical weapons attacks are known to do! The longer Abramovich goes unsanctioned by the US the more obvious it becomes this is nothing more than naked corruption.
