Russia is punishing anti-lockdown protesters and coronavirus conspiracy theorists with fines and prison and ordering the deletion of conspiracy videos from Russian social media.
From The Moscow Times, "Claims of Coronavirus' Manmade Origin Are Fake, Russia Says":
Russian prosecutors have shot down online conspiracy theories about the coronavirus’ manmade origins as fake, the Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement Wednesday.Incidentally, I don't see any of the vocal Russiophobic leftists complaining about this on social media.
They're probably licking their lips.
As we saw in The Atlantic last month, our ruling oligarchs want the same censorship regime here in America.
I don't think this virus is a bioweapon and strongly believe the US government's claims it was leaked from a Chinese lab are just war propaganda (they need someone to blame with 30-50 million Americans unemployed) but it has become abundantly clear our "authorities" are just using the virus as an excuse to seize power.
While some of the out there conspiracy theories probably aren't helpful, there's no question that officials ordering people to stay locked in their homes and depriving them of fresh air and sunshine while the weather is nice deprives them of vitamin D, weakens their immune systems and is likely getting people killed.
Meanwhile, when states like Florida try to find a middle ground and ease some lockdown measure to allow people to get out in nature the media responds with hysterical headlines implying the lifting of the lockdown caused immediate mass death -- which is just as dishonest and fake as the wildest conspiracy theories.
Neither the media's hysteria or the most paranoid of conspiracy theories are particularly helpful but perhaps on a metaphysical level they work to balance each other out.
Unfortunately, with the mass censorship regime Big Tech rolled out in the wake of this virus we're getting mostly just media hysteria.
