MIAMI - Miami-Dade police arrested, then fired, a 5-year veteran of their department after accusing him of stealing $100,000 during an undercover sting, an agency spokesman said Sunday. Ricardo Toledo, 36, was arrested Saturday after investigators received a tip he was corrupt and set up the sting, said Miami-Dade police spokesman Detective Mario Rachid. Toledo, who was assigned to the Kendall District, stopped a vehicle containing $100,000, took the money and let the motorist go. The motorist was an undercover officer and Toledo was off duty when he made the traffic stop, Rachid said. Toledo also gave out privileged information from a motor vehicle database for $150 on another occasion, Rachid said. Other details about the incidents and investigation, led by the department's Professional Compliance Bureau, were not released. Toledo faces one count of first degree grand theft and unlawful compensation, Rachid said. He has been relieved of duty. It was not known Sunday where he was being held in custody. |
