Fort Worth Man Killed in Drug Raid

by Phillip Smith

A Fort Worth, Texas, resident was shot and killed by members of the Tarrant County Narcotics Unit as they executed a search warrant Friday night. The as yet unidentified victim becomes the 36th person to die in US domestic drug law enforcement operations so far this year.

According to WFAA TV News, citing a Fort Worth police captain, six members of the unit's Northeast Division arrived at the Tulip Tree Drive residence about 8:45 p.m. When they broke down the door, the man inside was holding a shotgun and pointing it at officers.

One officer from nearby Euless fired once at the man, striking him at the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

While police did not identify the man, they did say he was 30 years old.

Four other people inside the home were taken into custody, but it is not clear if they were actually arrested.

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating the shooting.

7247 The man that was shot is named Thomas Bradley Garza. He was my friend for over a decade. He thought his house was being robbed during a no knock raid on his house. Due to double deadbolt locks on his door officers couldn't get in. Since nobody identified themselves as law enforcement Brad walked up the door, unlocked it, and let them in. It was less than two seconds after opening the door that they shot him. He did not have the weapon pointed at the officers. They did not tell him to drop the weapon. They just put one round in his chest and THEN identified themselves as police. Tragic as fuck.

Doesn't make sense... he put double locks on the door in order to open it to the robbers?

7111 Brad would never have shot at a cop. He thought he was being robbed. Plain and simple. Brad was nice guy and probably scared as hell. I'm certain that these cowards are looking for and excuse to murder someone. This could have been avoided.

And as for the ignorant person that posted this comment, go to hell! Were u there the night Brad was killed? No! So I suggest before u jump up on ur pedestal and start judging folks, how about u fix yourself first. I'm gonna suggest u start with the third grade..

17374 obviously the cops abused there power and the one that shot him should be lynched to death infront of the public eye. its unacceptable that they can kill without repercussions.

First step is to hire a lawyer. Second, you'd likely have to file suit against the police department to get them to give up any evidence related to the case (outside of the police report, which you should request a copy of).

Here's an example of such a suit in a somewhat similar type case, a lawyer is listed in the article:

Such lawsuits are routine, so don't feel overwhelmed.

70196 I knew brad, i saw him almost everyday for months. We always chilled and played GTA 5.
i am very good friends with a family member. i was right outside the day this happened, with this family member.

He was lightly drinking the night it happened, there was supposed to be a kick back that night, thats why he did not react appropriately.

I was on the phone with him for 10 minutes before i was told i should head that way, we ended the conversation because someone was knocking on the door. when i got there the police were already there, so was the ambulance.

I looked up to this man. He was extremely smart, brilliant, and i do not say that lightly. He had so much potential.
No matter what the time of day Brad always cared for family and friends, he always had helpful tips and advise for me and his cousin.
Trying to help us stay safe. Trying to stop us from making silly mistakes...

I'm so glad i met him, and i am still so torn apart from his death.
