New York Rep Jaamal Bowman's office sent out a damage control memo urging Democrats to talk about "Nazi members" of the GOP to deflect from the fact he got caught pulling a fire alarm to allegedly delay a House vote on averting a government shutdown.

From Axios, "Jamaal Bowman damage control roils Capitol Hill as GOP closes in":
Driving the news: Democratic staffers were transfixed and bewildered by a messaging memo that Bowman's office sent out on Monday afternoon --before restricting access to it seven minutes later.

- The memo, a copy of which was obtained by Axios, included a list of nine suggested talking points, including: "I believe Congressman Bowman when he says this was an accident. Republicans need to instead focus their energy on the Nazi members of their party before anything else."

- Soon after sending the memo in a Google Doc, access was restricted "as it was leaked to reporters," with Bowman's office urging staffers who want messaging to reach out directly, according to emails viewed by Axios.

What he's saying: "I just became aware that in our messaging guidance, there was inappropriate use of the term Nazi without my consent," Bowman said in a post on the social media site X.

"I condemn the use of the term Nazi out of its precise definition. It is important to specify the term Nazi to refer to members of the Nazi party & neo-Nazis."
Who is this half-apology written for? Jonathan Greenblatt at the ADL?

It's not an apology to the GOP members his office said to slander as Nazis. It's an apology for devaluing the term and lowering its potency when it comes to demonizing your political enemies.

Bowman, while standing before a black nationalist flag which hangs outside his office, told Fox News on Monday he stands by his previous statement that he pulled the fire alarm by accident.

"I don't know why this has gotten so much attention," Bowman said. "I was literally just in a rush to go vote, man! That's all it was!"

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday night said Bowman's excuse was "crap" and called for him to be prosecuted in "the same exact way" as J6ers.

Capitol Police have still not released video of Bowman pulling the alarm.
