Newly appointed California Senator Laphonza Butler (D) is a champion of affirmative action who said the Supreme Court's ruling in June to limit the race-based privilege system was about "maintain[ing] a system created for white men by white men."

"EMILYs List was created with the idea that representation matters and we are made better and stronger with diversity," Butler said in a thread on Twitter after the SCOTUS ruling came in. "In the decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina, the Supreme Court ignored decades of precedent to undermine an effective method of promoting equality."

"Once again, this Supreme Court has followed the GOP's lead, putting ideology ahead of facts and the pursuit of a more perfect union," Butler continued. "Diverse representation matters — and we must do all we can to elect leaders who will fight to deliver America's promise–a promise to all Americans of equal opportunity to become the leaders of tomorrow. Women of color continue to be underrepresented at the table, and this decision was yet another means of undermining our rights to maintain a system created for white men by white men. Freedom is on the line."

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) picked Butler to replace the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein because she was black, fulfilling a prior pledge he made to pick a black woman for her seat.

Butler's previous appointment to lead the pro-abortion group EMILY's list also appears to have been driven by the fact she, in her own words, is a "Black lesbian woman."

Newsom picked Butler to be California's newest Senator even though she doesn't live in California but instead lives on the other side of the country in Maryland.

It sure must be tough being "oppressed" under our "system of white supremacy!"
