France's Socialist Party on Monday said its candidates would fall on their swords in three regions to try and prevent the far-Right Front National from clinching historic electoral victories next Sunday. The FN made sweeping gains across France in the first round of regional elections on Sunday, coming top in six out of 13 regions and taking 28 per cent of the national vote.
