FORT DODGE, Iowa — Police in Fort Dodge suspect someone angry with their mobile speed camera truck set it on fire a week ago as revenge for getting a ticket. The fire destroyed the truck and all the surveillance equipment inside, causing an estimated $40,000 in damages. “When I got the call that it had been destroyed it was like, ‘Really? Someone would do that?’” said Fort Dodge Police Chief Kevin Doty. Indeed, it is hard to believe anyone could get angry with a clandestine mobile police spy vehicle which automatically mails motorists extortion letters en masse demanding cash. Personally, I would have expected people to write thank you letters to the police praising them for their "service." Regardless, police determined to keep revenue flowing say they've already ordered a new one and it'll be ready to go in another week. |
