Officer To Citizen: "You Must Be Doing Something Wrong If You Invoke Your Rights"

By Matt Agorist

Two videographers were in Jacksonville Florida conducting a First Amendment Audit on Wednesday. They were filming prisoners being transported in and out of the Duval County Courthouse’s sally port.

A sally port is usually behind a wall or other fixed protection but the this one empties right on to a public roadway.

The first cameraman is approached by two Jacksonville officers and immediately asked what he is doing, to which the cameraman responds, “I am filming in a public space.”

Sgt. Richardson of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office informs the cameraman that this public space is a “secure area,” and he cannot be filming here, and begins to ask more questions.

When the cameraman invokes his 5th Amendment right, he is told by Sgt. Richardson, ”You must be doing something wrong if you invoke your rights.”

Let that sink in…..

This statement by Richardson could have been a Freudian slip or a brutally honest admission. Either way, it is disturbing.

SCOTUS ruled in June of 2013, in Salinas V. Texas, that remaining silent could actually be used as evidence of guilt.
To prevent the privilege against self-incrimination from shielding information not properly within its scope, a witness who “`desires the protection of the privilege . . . must claim it’” at the time he relies on it.
In other words, simply remaining silent is not enough, you must specifically invoke your 5th Amendment right. However, if police treat those who know and invoke their rights as criminals, what does that say about the current state of affairs in police state USA?

7147 No, officer, you must be doing something wrong if you think there's something suspicious with my assertion of my Rights.

193138 Asking for a name or badge number only works if police management has integrity. In Florida, for the most part, you can't use the words "police" and "integrity" in the same sentence. Over the last 30+ years, they've just about all gone darkside. Scum of the 'effin earth.

Your best strategy today is to avoid these seriously evil bastards at all costs. Failing that, invoke your rights immediately upon contact (plastic laminated civil rights declaration card hand to cop). Keep your cameras rolling and sue, sue, sue.

Playing the Civil Rights game is borderline effective. More and more people are saying we will have to fight them one day. From the video and documentation I'm seeing these days, I just don't doubt it.

7565 A pig named Sunil Dutta (a darling of the right wing) wrote an op ed in the Washington Post: "I'm a cop. If you don't want to get hurt, don't challenge me." (http://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2014/08/19/im-a-cop-if-you-dont-want-to-get-hurt-dont-challenge-me/). Pig Dutta is a professor of so-called homeland security at Colorado Tech Univ. and has been a pig in the LAPD for 17 years.

Pig Dutta says: "...if you don’t want to get shot, tased, pepper-sprayed, struck with a baton or thrown to the ground, just do what I tell you. Don’t argue with me, don’t call me names, don’t tell me that I can’t stop you, don’t say I’m a racist pig, don’t threaten that you’ll sue me and take away my badge. Don’t scream at me that you pay my salary, and don’t even think of aggressively walking towards me. Most field stops are complete in minutes. How difficult is it to cooperate for that long?"

I.e., if you so much as look cross-eyed at pig Dutta , he's so insecure and cowardly - and therefore brutally aggressive - that he'll go insane and kill ; you. Like one of the Ferguson pigs told a protester, "I'll fucking kill you." THAT's pig Dutta in a nutshell. Certified nut.

NO ONE has any respect for a fascist pig.
