Police Chief Defends Ticketing Man Who Stopped At Stop Sign, Says Law Requires Multiple Stops At Same Sign

Chris | InformationLiberation

After video surfaced showing Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania police were completely in the wrong when they ticketed an innocent man for not stopping at a stop sign despite his coming to a complete stop, Jefferson Hills Police Chief Gene Roach refused to admit the ticket was in error.

Despite withdrawing the ticket after the fraud was completely exposed, the chief defending his officer saying saying, “technically…the law says you stop at the stop sign, you move forward, stop again, until you can see that the intersection is clear and then you go.”

According to the chief stopping at a stop sign is not enough, you have to stop at a stop sign multiple times, and don't you dare think of lurching! To think no one takes cops seriously these days!

99170 I want to see "the law" that says you have to stop at a a stop sign twice!! I know this is how they teach it in the driving classes for new drivers but I doubt very much this is part of the law itself.

50193 Meanwhile, the Republicans in congress who wrote the law are laughing at us, knowing that they are exempt. Money talks.

82192 It really is time for something other than talking.

These people obviously want trouble. We should give it to them. X100.

24251 Cops can make up laws as they go now, didn’t you know that. They can slit dogs throats, shoot handcuffed prisoners, watch inmates die on camera and make jokes, taze 71 year old women and drop babies on the pavement, no repercussions.

Defend yourself against police, well that’s a beating and a felony charge.

75181 To bad he didn't go to court, have the cop swear under oath he didn't stop and then introduce the video as evidence. After that, request in open court the cop be charged with perjury. And then comes the civil suit.

10875 This sets a bad precedence. When cops ticket lawful citizens it diminishes their credibility and their authority. Eventually this will become them against us and that will not be a pretty site. My suggestion is that the cops need to remember their oath, "to protect and serve" and not to dominate for the sake of revenue.

184101 That's why I like Panama; in Panama, a Stop/Alto Sign is only a suggestion. You never see a Panamanian stop unless the vehicle with the so call right of way is twice your vehicle size.
