Norfolk voters have said no to fluoride. According to votes counted after Tuesday's primary election, nearly 2,250 voters rejected the idea, versus nearly 1,800 who said yes. A state law passed in 2008 requires fluoridation in cities with more than 1,000 people unless local voters opt out by June 2010. Those places where there is enough naturally occurring fluoride don't have to add any. Last November, voters in several Nebraska cities and towns told their leaders not to add fluoride, including Bayard, Beatrice and Broken Bow; Chadron, Friend and Gothenburg; Hastings, Kimball and North Platte; Scottsbluff, Sidney and York. Crete was among the cities that approved a fluoridation measure. |
