Shoplifting arrests are 10 to 20 percent higher across the nation this year compared to last year. Nearly $35 million in merchandise is stolen each day in America. According to the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention, one in every 11 people in the U.S. have shop-lifted. Locally, we talked to Kennewick Police who tell us part of the reason arrests are up is because of new technology. "It is probably due to the volume of shopping going on this time of year. I know the stores hire extra loss prevention officers. The advances in security systems is probably another reason why it's up," said Ofc. Stan Howard, Kennewick Police Department. Kennewick Police say if you are caught shoplifting you will be arrested and prosecuted. |
