Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is planning to deliberately provoke China with an inflammatory visit to Taiwan on Tuesday night, despite warnings from Chinese officials that "grave consequences" will follow.
Pelosi "plans to meet Taiwan’s president Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday," the Financial Times reports. "President Joe Biden dispatched senior officials, including national security adviser Jake Sullivan, to lay out the risks to Pelosi, but people familiar with the situation said she had decided to press ahead with the landmark trip," FT reports.
