No evidence? No problem.
From The Washington Post:
The Obama administration is close to announcing a series of measures to punish Russia for its interference in the 2016 presidential election, including economic sanctions and diplomatic censure, according to U.S. officials.Despite his party losing the vote in part due to its warmongering, Obama's going to commit an act of war against Russia in the final days of his presidency.
I fail to see how this is not treason.
The sanctions portion of the package culminates weeks of debate in the White House on how to revise a 2015 executive order that was meant to give the president authority to respond to cyberattacks from overseas but that did not cover efforts to influence the electoral system.I'm sure China stopped all hacking of our companies pursuant to this order.
But officials concluded this fall that the order could not, as written, be used to punish the most significant cyber-provocation in recent memory against the United States -- Russia's hacking of Democratic organizations, targeting of state election systems and meddling in the presidential election.Note, no use of the word "alleged."
Was hard evidence released at some point the Washington Post and New York Times chose not to report on? Or are we supposed to believe through the magic of repetition this conspiracy theory is now fact?
I'm sure Politifact and Snopes will chime in on this one.
With the clock ticking, the White House is working on adapting the authority to punish the Russians, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. President Obama pledged this month that there would be a response to Moscow's interference in the U.S. elections.Once again, theories about "Moscow's interference" are stated as fact.
Russia had denied involvement in the hacking.Obama is doing everything in his power to sabotage Trump's move to make peace with Russia. Again, I fail to see how this is not treason.
The article goes on for a while talking about how they're planning to sanction Russia, it's not until the second to last paragraph they finally admit they have no hard evidence to actually make a criminal case.
Criminal indictments of Russians might become an option, officials said, but the FBI has so far not gathered enough evidence that could be introduced in a criminal case. At one point, federal prosecutors and FBI agents in San Francisco considered indicting Guccifer 2.0, a nickname for a person or people believed to be affiliated with the Russian influence operation and whose true identity was unknown. The Washington Post should be sanctioned for producing fake news.
With this act of war, Obama is doing more to undermine our republic than Russians ever could.
