In a criminal trial that began against a Michigan officer this week, an unidentified 17-year-old testified on Wednesday that the cop continually sexually assaulted her – some times while on duty – since she was 15-years-old.

The girl said Emmett Township police officer Troy Estree – whom she is related to – engaged in the assaults during much of 2014 after he came back into her life in 2013.

Estree was charged with nine counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a teenage relative and faces a life sentence in prison if convicted.

The teen told the jury that she first started meeting the married cop in public places, but later at his home where he lived with his wife, their two children and his mother. She said that things started to change in 2014.

“It started with him touching me up my leg and closer to my thighs and then my private areas,” she said. “I didn’t know what to do. He started rubbing my thighs and up to my vagina. I didn’t know what to expect.”

The girl said Estree gave her a phone and they began exchanging messages before she began spending nights at his house and he started buying her alcohol. She said one of these late night encounters resulted in anal intercourse.

“I don’t remember what he said, but he was probably kissing my neck,” she said. “I said I didn’t want to do it anymore. I felt like trash.”

A few weeks a later, the teen said Estree wanted to show her a camper in the yard and told her he wanted to have oral sex. She told the jury she complied and began thinking of the sexual predator as her boyfriend.

The girl described several other assaults, including a time in a basement bedroom, at a construction site, and at Bridge Park while she was riding with Estree in his patrol vehicle. The teen said the officer had sex with her while wearing his duty belt on a park bench and another time on the trunk of the police car.

“I thought it was normal,” she said. “It destroyed a whole family… I had not had sex before.”

During the proceedings, a pediatrician testified that she examined the girl on Aug. 19, 2014, and found she had herpes. The doctor said the teen told her that she had had anal intercourse with Estree.

“She volunteered that he gave her oral sex, too, and [said] that is probably where [she] got the herpes,” the pediatrician said.

Rape and sexual misconduct allegations are traditionally more common among police officers than the rest of the population. According to the 3rd Quarter Report of The National Police Misconduct Statistics and Reporting Project for 2010, police officers were accused of sexual assault at a rate of 79 per 100,000 cops.

The rate of accusations for the general public was almost three times less with just 28.7 allegations per 100,000 people. When correcting for gender, the numbers show that there are 1.5 times more accusations of sexual assault among male law enforcement officers than among the general male population.

Estree’s trail is expected to continue into next month.
