 While two Oregon ranchers are going to prison for 5 years for arson due to a controlled burn which went out of control and burned some federal property, this report from 20/20 highlights one case whereby the Dept. of Interior in Lewiston, California staged a "controlled burn" to get rid of a thistle weed but instead ended up burning down two dozen homes. Of course, they faced no repercussions, and incidentally the weed came back stronger than ever.
