  There's no limit to the mercy shown by police to fellow law-breakers in uniform. In this case out Idaho, Garden City Police Lt. Heath Jay Compton, 44, a 19-year-veteran with the Garden City police department, was charged and convicted for driving under the influence back in 2005, yet he somehow managed to keep his job with the police. Now, all these years later he's been charged a second time. While responding to an unrelated incident at the officer's home, police determined Compton had been driving with a blood-alcohol level of over .20, more than double the .08 standard which nets you a DUI under Idaho law. Details are sparse, but the officer chose to resign as a result of the charges. The question is, why wasn't he forced to resign after his first DUI charge? Why is one DUI charge permissible? |
