20934 Molyneux is correct. The issue was not "stand your ground". It was assault.

While there are a host of context factors that legally determine who is in the wrong, it really all boils down to the old schoolyard canard of "he hit me first".

In this case, everything changed when Martin hit Zimmerman. That's misdemeanor battery.

When Martin mounted Zimmerman and began ground and pound, it became felony assault.

When Martin began smashing Zimmerman's head into the concrete it became Attempted Murder, and lethal force became justified.

12207 yep, we could list all kind of things he might have had that wouldnt have killed him, but a gun is more effective and more useful in situations like this

85167 If someone was following me while I was walking home at night, I would have felt threatened. We don't know what was said between them, but if I had seen that the guy following me was carrying a gun, my instinct would be to try and disarm him before he could kill me.

The gun was concealed, Trayvon had no idea he was armed, if he knew he probably wouldn't have attacked him.

75120 So if you attack someone that is following you that is NOT self defense? Yeah that makes alot of sense. So I can stalk people in Florida cause I THINK(NOT KNOW) they look suspicious. And if they attack me I can then kill them. That's what I getting from this
