Texas Students Revolt Against Mandatory RFID Tracking Chips



'Students and parents at two San Antonio schools are in revolt over a program that forces kids to wear RFID tracking name tags which are used to pinpoint their location on campus as well as outside school premises.

Students at John Jay High School and Anson Jones Middle School will be mandated to wear the tags from today which will be used to track them on campus as well as when they enter and leave school.

Andrea Hernandez is leading a group of students who refuse to wear the tags because in her words, “It makes me uncomfortable. It’s an invasion of my privacy,” she told KSN.com.'

That's bullshit. Its not by any means a invasion of privacy since you're in a school, which may already have cameras to track you. This is for the good of the students.

Here in Brazil we have these and they are great for the school and the students, no invasion of privacy, and helps the school to know if you're in or out.

67142 This is an invasion of privacy if it also allows the school to track your movements outside of the school. On school property, it is up to the school to enforce it's own rules but as soon as the students are off school property they cannot enforce any sort of rules.

Also just because Brazil has this system in place, doesn't mean that is right for use in the United States. What if a student forgets their ID at home but attends school that day? The school will count them as absent and hold that against them.

20117 As a Brazilian, I'd like to clarify that neither my school (ensino fundamental/médio) nor my college (ensino superior) had neither RFID tags nor cameras.

I consider It a *severe* invasion of privacy, and I disagree with Nathan's position entirely.

20797 SOmething else to bear in mind - its rare that large scale tracking would ever happen over-night.

Instead we should worry about the gradual erosion of our privacy bit by bit - which is is just another measure that does so.

put the tag in the microwave oven for 5 sec and that chip should be toast.
