Cain, who returned home to Atlanta yesterday for his first face-to-face talk with his wife since the accusation of an extramarital affair surfaced Nov. 28, had said he would clarify his next steps in the race today based on the toll on his family and campaign fundraising. Cain, who gained double-digit support in national surveys starting in late September and led some surveys in October, slipped to third place in a Nov. 22 national poll released by Hamden, Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University. “I am suspending my presidential campaign,” said Cain, 65, the former chief executive of Godfather’s Pizza Inc., a closely held company based in Omaha, Nebraska. “I am at peace with my God. I am at peace with my wife, and she is at peace with me. And I am at peace with my family and I am at peace with myself.” “That’s the bad news,” Cain said.
