 A COURT has heard that a police officer committed "21 counts of perjury" while giving evidence against a Sydney man who his lawyer says was subject to a brutal police assault. Benedetto Sorbello, 41, was charged with offensive language, resisting arrest, hindering police in the execution of their duties and assaulting police following an incident outside the Royal Oaks Hotel at Double Bay in April last year. After a four-day hearing the Sydney racing identity was found not guilty of all charges and his barrister Thomas Hughes Junior is now seeking costs. Mr Hughes said CCTV footage revealed Mr Sorbello had been "jumped upon" by seven or eight police officers while his hands were cuffed behind his back. Read More |
