BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Boynton Beach police say a 47-year-old Florida Atlantic University police officer has confessed to shooting a 29-year-old prostitute he met online, paralyzing her.

Police arrested Jimmy Dac Ho on an attempted first-degree murder charge after evidence linked him to the shooting Monday and after he almost immediately confessed to police who came to his home to question him. [...]

When police contacted Dac Ho at his home, investigators said he appeared nervous and after saying that he was a police officer and that he "ruined his life," he quickly admitted to shooting Carter, but claimed it was self-defense. At that point, investigators took him to the police station to question him further. Ho said Carter pulled a gun on him and said he wasn't leaving until he gave her money, money he said he didn't have. Later he told police that he was afraid she was going to rob him and that she pulled a knife. He said he pulled out his .38-caliber handgun, took her from the kitchen to the bedroom and handcuffed her there. He said as he tried to unhandcuff her later, she struggled and he shot her in the abdomen. He told police he remembered a second shot to her neck, after which he fled the scene.
