Arizona Gov. Signs Illegal Immigration Bill

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer ignored Obama, the Democrats in Washington, and La Raza and other pro-illegal immigration groups and signed a law that will allow police to deal with illegal aliens. “We in Arizona have been more than patient waiting for Washington to act,” Brewer said after signing the law. “But decades of inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation.”

On Friday Obama called the bill “misguided” and instructed the Justice Department to find ways to force Arizona to back down. He also said the federal government must enact immigration reform at the national level — or leave the door open to “irresponsibility by others,” according to the Washington Post. “That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe,” Obama said.

Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that Arizona's illegal immigrant population is costing the state's taxpayers about $1.3 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration, reports Federation for American Immigration Reform. “The total costs of illegal immigration to the state's taxpayers would be considerably higher if other costs such as special English instruction, school nutrition programs, or welfare benefits for American workers displaced by illegal alien workers were added into the equation.”

Soaking Arizona’s tax payers apparently does not fit in Obama’s “basic notions of fairness.”

Arizona Democrat Rep. Raul Grijalva said Friday he wants Obama to end law enforcement agreements with Arizona police departments in response to Brewer signing the bill. "This law will put every policeman in the state on notice that their main duty from now on is to question Hispanics about their citizenship," Grijalva said in a prepared statement. "This is a discriminatory policy that cannot be enforced without committing grave breaches of due process and equal protection. The law will not withstand legal scrutiny, and I call on the president immediately to reject it in the strongest possible terms."

Grijalva characterized the bill as “racist” and compared the current situation to the 1990s when Arizona's bid for a Super Bowl was lost because the state refused to designate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as a holiday.

It looks like Democrats are repeating the tactics they used when Obama and Congress signed Obamacare into law.

Grijalva closed his Arizona office at noon Friday after allegedly receiving death threats. Grijalva spokesman Adam Sarvana said in a written statement to the Arizona Daily Star that the congressman’s office received “some pretty scary calls,” including one from a man “who threatened to go down there and blow everyone’s brains out and then go to the border to shoot Mexicans,” Fox News reported.
