For the establishment leftoids, the verdict is in — John Patrick Bedell was not only a rightwing, anti-government terrorist, but a Libertarian to boot.

From the Soros project, Think Progress:
The Pentagon shooting is just the latest in a string of violence seemingly motivated by far right ideologies. Of course, last month, "[h]atred of the government motivated a man in Texas" to launch a suicide attack on an IRS office. And a recent Southern Poverty Law Center report found a 244 percent rise in the number of extremist hate groups. But when the Department of Homeland Security released a report last year warning about the threat from right-wing domestic terror, conservative politicians and commentators were outraged, claiming it was an assault on conservatism. Sadly, the report was right.
The SPLC is an outfit specifically created to peddle fear and paranoia of any organization that may oppose large government and the diminishment of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. It specializes in conflating marginalized (and often government created) white supremacist groups (and individuals such as the FBI operative Hal Turner) with Libertarians and Constitutionalists. Both the MIAC and DHS reports depend on wildly speculative information provided by the SPLC and the ADL. The corporate media also relies heavily on the SPLC to propagate distortions and exaggerations about the patriot movement.

Joe Stack’s diatribe read more like Das Kaptial than something produced by the so-called far right (and by "far right" Think Soros means classical liberalism -- natural rights, private property, and fiscal responsibility, the stuff of the founders -- the obverse of Marx and socialism).

In an update to the above post, Think Soros cuts to the chase -- Bedell used the Mises website to urge "potential collaborators to contact him." In other words, according to Think Progress, the deranged shooter associated with Libertarians.

But what Libertarian in his right mind would support the cockamamie ramblings of Bedell? After all, he a suggested marijuana-based monetary system based on his ideas of Information Currency (see video below).

Bedell wrote that his ludicrous marijuana currency idea "is a way of associating the work of Ludwig von Mises with financial value, which may be a tool to implement his ideas in reality. I hope someday to see full-reserve banking and observance of Article One, Section 10 of the US Constitution." (Article 1, Section 10 states gold and silver shall be used as "a Tender in Payment of Debts," not marijuana).

Hitching Bedell (who suffered from mental illness) up with the Ludwig von Mises Institute and Libertarians reveals just how desperate the establishment is to discredit the patriot movement. It also reveals the utter poverty of their arguments.
